Some of the assignments we complete are:
- Pencil sketch to demonstrate understanding of the principles and elements of design
- Bob Ross painting teaching value (*Student choice assignment :-)
- Through the keyhole OR eye reflection pencil sketch
- Spooky charcoal sketch to practice using the techniques presented in class
- Chalk pastel landscape or animal
- Oil pastel abstract
- Art History: Famous artist research assignment and PowerPoint presentation
- Zentangle (If time)
- Pottery (mugs and vases and/or jewelry)
- Combining mediums assignment (use at least two different mediums in the same piece of artwork)
- Acrylic painting
- Watercolor painting
- Recycled material art

Important Concepts:
Pencil Sketching:
These are just a few samples of the different grades of pencil, as well as some of the sketching techniques we will cover in class. A much more detailed handout is given to each student at the beginning of the sketching unit.
*Students have the opportunity to work with solid graphite pencils, but be warned... they are fragile and easily broken if dropped or mishandled.

Note: Many of the techniques you have learned during our lessons on charcoal will be the same, or similar, to those for chalk pastel. Especially the blending techniques and tools :-) Hairspray can also be a great way to seal your work when it is complete.

Painting Rules:
- Always clean and dry your materials; take care of our stuff!
- Don't take excessive amounts of paint. A little goes a long way and you can always come back for more.
- You are responsible for cleaning up your desk and surrounding area
- Anyone displaying disrespectful behavior towards materials will not be allowed to paint...no second chances.
