Pencil Sketching:
These are just a few samples of the different grades of pencil, as well as some of the sketching techniques we will cover in class. A much more detailed handout is given to each student at the beginning of the sketching unit.
*Students have the opportunity to work with solid graphite pencils, but be warned... they are fragile and easily broken if dropped or mishandled.

Charcoal:
Note: Smudging and blending can be done with a variety of materials such as: paper towel, Kleenex, finger, q-tips etc. Experiment to discover different effects. If you have accidentally made a section too dark or would like to add highlights, and eraser can be a great tool!

Chalk Pastel
Note: Many of the techniques you have learned during our lessons on charcoal will be the same, or similar, to those for chalk pastel. Especially the blending techniques and tools :-) Hairspray can also be a great way to seal your work when it is complete.
