Novel Choices:
Hidden Roots - Joseph Bruchac
Monkey Island - Paula Fox
This Dark Endeavour - Kenneth Oppel
The Hero and the Crown - Robin Mckinnley
The Mountain that Walked - Katherine Holubitsky
Dust - Arthur Slade
Izzy, Willy-Nilly - Cynthia Voigt
Motorcycles and Sweetgrass - Drew Hayden Taylor
Touching Spirit Bear - Ben Mikaelsen
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
* These are the novel options that we currently have available in our classroom. ALL students have been told that they can choose a novel of their own as long as I have received the novel and read it before the end of Christmas break. Also, if a student would like to read a novel that a peer has chosen, they are allowed to do so, but they will be responsible for finding their own copy. We are currently able to offer 10 novels in class, and approximately 10 others that students have had me read.

* I have not posted a sample of the essay or short story assignment. Use the same planning and writing process that we followed during our short story unit earlier in the year. Although I did not add a sample essay, I did upload a basic overview of how to write a 5 paragraph essay. The attachment also includes a planning page for those that may want to use it.
Section II Sample Assignments:
I'll be using student work from this years classes as samples for section II and III to update the examples. They will be added shortly.

Section III Sample Assignments:
Media
1) The first half of the media unit will be identifying print-ad techniques and creating a print ad to show understating.
2) The second portion of the unit will be analyzing and identifying ad techniques used in commercials through a variety of activities. The final project will be to create a commercial that uses a specific technique, and that includes all necessary information for the product/service. The technique should be easily identified and will be presented to the class.
